In November 2006, Ott Consulting Inc. (OCI), which provides civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture services with headquarters in Emmaus, PA, purchased East Penn Engineering Co. of Bangor, PA. Ott Consulting Inc. continues to maintain a presence in the Slate Belt and, in fact, continues to expand their clientele in the area. We spoke with Jeffrey Ott, PE, MBA, President and CEO of Ott Consulting Inc. recently regarding his view of the acquisition now that nearly 9 years have passed.
“In November 2006, we purchased East Penn Engineering Co. in order to expand our reach into the Slate Belt and Pocono region. Since that time, we have been appointed by Washington Township, Plainfield Township, Bangor Borough and East Bangor Borough as their Municipal Engineer. We have also been appointed as the Alternate Municipal Engineer for Portland Borough and Hamilton Township. We have also prepared design and construction plans for various residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects throughout the Slate Belt. We continue to seek opportunities to expand our services in the area” Ott said in a recent conversation. OCI maintains all of the project records for previous East Penn Engineering Co. clients.
Not only is OCI serving the Consulting Engineering needs in the area, Ott is also involved in local organizations. He currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of the Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce and as the Chairman of the Slate Belt Community Partnership’s Economic Restructuring/Asset Enhancement Committee. OCI also supports the athletic programs at Bangor Area Senior High School. “I played on the Slater baseball teams and have fond memories of our success in 1983, when our Varsity team played in the PA State Championship Semi-Final. It’s an experience I find hard to describe. Although we lost to a team from the Pittsburgh area (Allerdice High School) in the Semi-Final, our accomplishments that year were impressive. I could only hope every local athlete has a positive experience in school; an experience which they can really cherish. Hard work on the playing field and in the classroom leads to success,” Ott said.
OCI’s Emmaus office, which currently employs a staff of 12 including engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, technicians and support staff, is also expanding to offer Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services by hiring a Sr. GIS Analyst with 29 years of experience. OCI is also planning to expand its services from the Slate Belt area into the Pocono region and beyond.
