As part of Engineer’s Week, Jeffrey L. Ott, PE, MBA, President of Ott Consulting Inc., was invited to St. Joseph the Worker Elementary School in Orefield, PA to discusses the profession of Civil Engineering to approximately 40 third grade students.
Mr. Ott quoted the Obligation of the Engineer to the students:
“I am an Engineer, in my profession I take deep pride…”
Mr. Ott provided a 45-minute presentation of the various branches of the civil engineering profession, including structural, geotechnical, transportation, hydraulic, land planning, environmental, municipal and water resources. “Mathematics is extremely important. So make sure you learn your multiplication tables!”
Mr. Ott concluded his presentation by offering some advice to the third graders: “Through hard work and dedication, you can achieve your dreams. The only limitation you have is the one you place on yourself.”
