In The Performance Of Municipal Engineering Services
Ott Consulting Inc. was retained by the Borough of Alburtis, Lehigh County, to locate sanitary sewer lateral clean-out locations throughout the Borough. The work was performed this past summer (2016) as part of a system wide Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study. The firm’s survey team located every clean out location in the sanitary sewer system utilizing a Trimble GPS receiver and tablet with a specialized software application. The project team gathered photographs of each clean out along with site specific data such as clean out property location [lawn, landscape area, driveway, etc.], material [pvc, cast iron] and condition. The data was downloaded into the firm’s GIS system and a base map was created as a management tool for the Borough. Utilizing this technology the project team was able to incorporate the on-line application directly with the firm’s GIS program making the data transfer seamless. In addition only 65% of the allocated budgeted cost was required to complete this work.
